Girard O, Niagaté B, Thal J & Boutin JM. 2009. Les limicoles au Mali, en particulier dans le Delta intérieur du Niger [Waders in Mali, especially in the Inner Niger Delta]. Malimbus 31: 1-19. (ONCFS, Réserve de Chanteloup, 85340 l'Ile d'Olonne, France; EM: olivier.girard"à"oncfs.gouv.fr.)—Summarize data from 9 expeditions (ground and aerial) 1998--2008 and a literature review to give minimum and maximum estimates of populations for Mali of 34 regularly occurring wader (Jacanidae, Rostratulidae, Haematopidae, Recurvirostridae, Burhinidae, Glareolidae, Charadriidae and Scolopacidae) species (both afrotropical and palaearctic). Populations of other wader species, reported in Mali, have not been estimated as they are rare, poorly known or irregular. Also give brief descriptions of habitat, distribution and reported status by other authors of all species, and list species for which the area is of international (Ramsar 6) importance. Pk., Hythe, Kent CT21 4PD, UK; EM: ppgscience"at"yahoo.com.)—Report observations made 2003--2006 in Republic of Congo (vicinity of 3°0'S, 15°30'E) of adults feeding nestlings and juveniles, with subsequent sightings and plumage descriptions. Colour photos of nest and juvenile.

Sci., Louisina State Univ., Baton Rouge, LA 70803-3216, USA; EM: jweckstein"at"fieldmuseum.org.)—Documents surveys: 12--29 Feb 2000 at 5.34°N, 1.23°W (Central Region) and 14-30 Mar 2003 at 6.71°N, 2.73°W (Brong-Ahafo Region), with descriptions of habitats at each site plus abundance estimates of 147 bird species detected, comments on threatened species, details of birds mist netted, specimens collected and vocalisations tape recorded. Colour photos of specimens of Muscicapa tessmanni, M. comitata, Illadopsis rufescens, I. rufipennis and nest of Picathartes gymnocephalus.

Clouet M, Goar J-L & Bousquet J-F. 2009. Notes sur l'avifaune des massifs d'Hombori et Douentza (Mali) [Note on the birds of the Hombori--Douentza massifa, Mali]. Malimbus 31: 47-54. (54 Allées des Demoiselles, 31400 Toulouse, France; EM: dr.clouet"à"wanadoo.fr)—Give results (abundance indexes per species) of 2 short visits (3 days in Sep 2006 and 5 days in Dec 2007), during which 97 species were identified. Propose establishment of new IBA because of breeding of menaced vultures and the rich mountain avifauna.

(Ecole Nationale des Eaux et Forêts (ENEF), Cap Esterias, Gabon; EM (FM): fmaisels"at"wcs.org)—Describe successful behaviour of a pair with 3 eggs in nest that moved the snake c. 25 m away from nest during 4 hours on 14 Aug 2008.

Sharland RE. 2009. Odd observations from bird ringing in Nigeria. Malimbus 31: 57. (1 Fisher's Heron, East Mills, Fordingbridge, Hants SP6 2JR, UK.)—Recounts amusing and bizarre details of ringing in Nigeria in the 1960s, which did not appear in official reports.

Bulens P & Dowsett RJ. 2009. Bird observations from Aouk, S Chad, including additions to the avifauna. Malimbus 31: 57-60. (Hougaillard, F-47170 Reaup-Lisse, France; EM: pierre.bulens"à"wanadoo.fr.)—Report geographically notable observations of 11 species made 16-22 Feb 2003, especially of Halcyon malimbica, Chlorocichla flavicollis and Ploceus ocularis.

2006 Errata: Bird diversity in the Nyassang Forest Park, The Gambia (Malimbus 28:134-142). Malimbus 31: 61—Total wet season biodiversity incorrectly calculated: should be 165 species not 300. Also African Palm Swift was observed in Open Water Habitat.

2008 Errata: The avifauna of southeast Niger (Malimbus 30:30-54). Malimbus 31: 61—Correction to scientific name of Lesser Flamingo.
